the smell of burnt almonds
The lady gave him a cup of tea which for him smells like burnt almonds in the poisonous kind of way.This means that the lady wanted to poison him so that she can kill him and stuff him so that he stays young and stay the same and unchanged forever like she did to the other two people and her pets.
